PROGRESS INSPECTIONS
Progress inspections are required by the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) to verify that key stages of construction are completed in accordance with approved plans, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements. These inspections are conducted throughout the construction process and must be performed by qualified professionals who are either part of the design team or a registered inspection agency.
Typical progress inspections include energy code compliance checks, which confirm that insulation, lighting, HVAC systems, and other energy-related components meet the requirements of the NYC Energy Conservation Code. Additional inspections may cover fire-rated assemblies, accessibility elements, and general construction safety.
A final inspection is also required to confirm that all previously inspected elements remain compliant at the conclusion of construction. Progress inspections are documented on the TR8 form and are necessary for securing a Certificate of Occupancy, Temporary Certificate of Occupancy, or Letter of Completion.
