New Requirements for Buildings with Drinking Water Tanks
As of September 7, 2019, the New York city Council approved new requirements relating to drinking water tanks:
The changes:
• Set new requirements for inspectors conducting drinking water tank inspections and individuals performing water tank cleaning, painting, and coating
• Require water tank inspectors to submit annual inspection reports directly to the New York City Health and Mental Hygiene (the Health Department).
• Require both the owner and water tank inspector to maintain inspection results for five years from the date of inspection.
• Require the Health Department to inspect water tanks, conduct reviews of owners’ self-inspection records and post inspection results online.
Annual inspections must still be submitted to the Health Department by January 15 of the next calendar year online through the Water Tank Inspection Reporting site or by mail. For 2019, the annual inspection is due January 15, 2020.
If an annual inspection report for 2019 was submitted to the Health Department before the new regulations, a new inspection report submission is not required until 2020.
