How to Comply with Local Law 95 - Energy Letter Grades

Local Law 95 amends the ranges for how energy-efficiency grades are calculated as required by Local Law 33 of 2018. Local Law 33 of 2018 required the display of energy efficiency scores and grades for buildings required to that annually benchmark their energy and water consumption. The energy label will be displayed near a public entrance and include both a letter grade and the energy efficiency score.


Compliance is required Annually starting October 2020.


Applicable to buildings 25,000 sq. ft. and larger.


Letter grades are assigned based on the energy star score:


A: 100-85

B: 84-70

C: 69-55

D: 54-0


A submission of the energy star score is required as part of Local Law 84 compliance each year on May 1st. To Learn more about Local Law 84 requirements, follow this link.
